The Red River forms the border between Texas and Oklahoma, and meanders peacefully along 540 miles of twists and bends. A favorite fishing spot is the Red River just below the Denison Dam, where the flow is almost totally dependent upon dam releases at the lake, where hydroelectric power is generated. This usually results in better flows during the hot summer months, when the demand for electricity is higher. Of course, the flow is also influenced heavily by the amount of rainfall received at any given time. The water is usually clear and unpolluted as it leaves Lake Texoma Dam and anglers will find an abundance of alligator gar, channel, blue and flathead catfish, striped, spotted, white, hybrid and largemouth bass.
